Countdown Timer
Count down live to any date and time — birthdays, exams, launches, and more.
What is it?
A countdown timer continuously calculates and displays the exact time remaining until a specific date and time you choose, updating live down to the second.
Formula Explanation
The remaining time is simply your target date and time minus the current moment. That difference (in milliseconds) is converted into whole days, hours, minutes, and seconds using integer division and remainders, and recalculated every second so the display stays accurate.
Example Calculation
Counting down to a date 10 days away shows 10 Days, 0 Hours, 0 Minutes at first, then ticks down second by second in real time.
How to Use
- Optionally name your event (e.g. "Final Exam").
- Pick the target date and time you want to count down to.
- Click Start Countdown to see the live days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining.
- Click New Countdown any time to start over with a different date.
Benefits
- Updates live every second — no need to refresh the page.
- Works for any future date and time, down to the minute.
- Clearly shows when the countdown has finished.
Use Cases
- Counting down to exams, deadlines, or product launches.
- Building anticipation for birthdays, holidays, or weddings.
- Tracking time remaining until a meeting or event starts.
What Your Result Means
The four numbers show exactly how much time is left until your chosen moment, broken into days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Once all four reach zero, the countdown displays a completion message.
Tips
- Leave this tab open (or bookmark it) to keep tracking a countdown across a browsing session.

Common Mistakes
- Selecting a date in the past, which immediately shows the countdown as finished.
- Forgetting that the target time uses your device's local timezone.
- Closing the tab expecting the countdown to keep running in the background — it only counts while the page is open.
